An Italian Renaissance-style estate built in 1916 as the winter residence of industrialist James Deering. Over 10 acres of formal gardens and fountains surround a villa containing 34 rooms of 15th through 19th-century antique furnishings and decorative arts. Vizcaya is one of only two officially designated national historic landmarks in Miami-Dade County by the National Register of Historic Places (the other is Freedom Tower).

For grownups, Vizcaya--a National Historic Landmark--- is a feast for the eyes, an architectural curiosity amid Miami's modern sprawl, and a fascinating piece of history. Kids will enjoy running around the beautiful seawall area, including this gazebo, and exploring the elaborate gardens-- there's even a Maze Garden. They'll also like exploring the Vizcaya's interior and peering into the villa's ornately-decorated rooms, which contain tapestries, antiques, and other rarities collected on James Deering's trips to Europe. Vizcaya is a lovely evocation of two different eras: Renaissance Italy, as rendered by an impassioned admirer nearly a century ago.

No visit to Miami is complete without a stop at the historical 50-acre Vizcaya estate. This European-style mansion offers a glimpse at life in turn-of-the-century South Florida. It's also an extremely popular venue for galas, weddings and other entertainment events.Vizcaya is a National Historic Landmark; we're also a museum owned by Miami-Dade County and accredited by the American Association of Museums. Vizcaya is open to the public 364 days each year, and we invite you to visit this serene and stunningly beautiful retreat in the heart of Miami. Built by agricultural industrialist James Deering in 1916, Vizcaya Museum & Gardens features a main house, ten acres of formal gardens, a hardwood hammock, and soon-to-be-restored historic village
